Crowns

At Family Roots Dentistry, we like to think of crowns like helmets. Just like a helmet is strong and covers your head to protect it, a crown (or “cap”)  is strong and covers your tooth to protect it.

A crown is a highly durable covering that encases the entire tooth surface and is often recommended when a tooth has weakened in a way where it cannot be restored with fillings or other types of restorations. Our crowns are custom-made using only the highest quality materials and dental labs to ensure that we make a great fitting and long lasting crown every time.

WHAT ARE REASONS WHY A CROWN WOULD BE RECOMMENDED?

WHAT IS A DENTAL INLAY AND ONLAY, AND WHAT REASONS WHY THOSE WOULD BE RECOMMENDED?

At Family Roots Dentistry, our top priority is to provide the most conservative and least invasive treatment option. Dental inlays and onlays can be thought of as “partial crowns” – same strength, durability, and esthetics as crowns but require less tooth structure to be removed. Onlays are essentially identical to inlays with the exception that one or more of the chewing cusps have also been affected and need to be included in an onlay restoration.

Inlays and onlays are recommended to treat:

  • Broken or fractured teeth
  • Decayed teeth
  • Fractured fillings
  • Large fillings
  • Cosmetic enhancement

Depending on your situation, we may recommend an inlay or onlay for you as an alternative to a crown if it is the most conservative choice to successfully address a problem.
